HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell on the road to the Michigan Tech Huskies 65-54 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Cardinals record falls to 13-9 overall and 8-7 in the GLIAC.

How it happened:

• SVSU began the game on a 7-0 run before Michigan Tech finally got on the board with 3:20 left in the first quarter. The Cardinals opened up a nine-point lead and led 17-8 after the first quarter.
• The Cardinals lead grew to 11 points after a Kaitlyn Zarycki layup. The Huskies responded with back-to-back 3-point baskets before Ashley Buchholz answered with a 3-pointer of her own. 
• Michigan Tech closed the half on a 10-4 run, and SVSU took a 26-24 lead into the break. 
• Both teams traded baskets to begin the third quarter, with Maddie Barrie and Maddie Maloney scoring for SVSU.
• The Huskies opened up a seven-point lead with 5:12 left in the period before a layup by Victoria Stafford and a jumper by Maloney got the Cardinals to within three points. 
• Michigan Tech held off the SVSU push however, and took a 45-39 lead heading into the final quarter.
• In the fourth, the Huskies opened up an 11-point lead. The Cardinals didn't go away quietly however, and got to within six points with 2:03 left in the game. 
• A 3-point basket with 1:32 left for Michigan Tech was the difference maker, and the Huskies were able to seal the game with free-throws. 

Inside the Box Score:

• Zarycki led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
• Maddie Maloney posted 11 points and dished out four assists.
• Tori DePerry had a game-high nine rebounds as the Cardinals outrebounded the Huskies 35-31.
• SVSU was 23-of-56 from the field, 5-of-18 from 3-point range, and 3-of-7 from the free-throw line.
• The Huskies were led by Sloane Zenner with 16 points.
