BIG RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a victory over Ferris State University in the conclusion of a weekend Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series Saturday in Bib Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter to jump out to an early lead and held FSU to just 21 points in the second half in a 67-52 win.

"When we attack on the offensive end we draw a lot of attention and it is important to make those early shots, but it is more important to draw defenders in to put our shooters in good spots throughout the game," SVSU Head Coach Jenny Pruett said.

The victory pushes the Cardinals to 5-8 overall and 5-8 in the GLIAC.

Kaitlyn Zarycki led a balanced SVSU scoring attack with 13 points, adding 14 rebounds for a double-double. She continued to fill up the stat sheet with five assists, four steals, and two blocks in the win.

"She is racking up the double-doubles," Pruett said. "She understands her role as a scorer and when she is playing well the rest of the team really feeds off of that."

Maddie Maloney finished with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and five assists. Maddie Barrie hit a pair of shots from deep, recording 10 points, while Ashley Buchholz added three 3-pointers for nine points off the bench.

The Cardinals shot 23-of-53 from the field, 11-of-21 from deep, and 10-of-16 from the line, finishing with 19 assists, seven steals, 21 turnovers, and outrebounding the Bulldogs 39-34.

Kadyn Blanchard led FSU with a team-high 12 points.

SVSU returns home to host rival Northwood University at 5 pm Tuesday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.
