UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.- The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team used key 3-pointers down the stretch to pull away from the University of Wisconsin Parkside Saturday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

Ashley Buchholz hit from deep on back-to-back possessions for the Cardinals midway through the fourth quarter to balloon the SVSU lead to eight. After the Rangers closed the gap to four, Maddie Maloney connected from behind the arc to help secure a 76-69 win for the Cardinals.

The victory splits the weekend series for SVSU, which moves to 4-5 overall and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Kaitlyn Zarycki led the Cardinal offense with 18 points, recording five rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Maloney finished with 14 points and Buchholz added 11 off the bench. Kyndall Spires was strong inside for SVSU with 10 points.

The Cardinals shot 22-of-58 from the field, 12-of-35 from deep and a near-perfect 20-of-21 at the line. SVSU recorded 13 assists, eight steals and 14 turnovers, outrebounding Parkside 37-32.

Alyssa Nelson kept the Rangers (4-5, 4-5 GLIAC) close throughout with a game-high 28 points, including a halftime, buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

The Cardinals remain home to host two games against Michigan Tech starting at 5 pm Friday.
