ASHLAND, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team was unable to recover from a slow start against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Ashland University Saturday in Ashland, Ohio.

The Cardinals fell behind by 12 after the first quarter and the Eagles maintained control the rest of the way in an 80-64 win for Ashland. The loss drops SVSU to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC.

One day after leading SVSU to its first win over Ashland in more than a decade, Kaitlyn Zarycki recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kyndall Spires led the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

SVSU shot 25-of-59 from the field, 3-of-16 from deep and 11-of-14 at the line. The Cardinals finished with 13 assists, seven steals and 15 turnovers.

 Annie Roshak scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting to lead Ashland (3-3, 3-3 GLIAC).

SVSU makes the short trip to Northwood University for a midweek GLIAC matchup at 6 pm Tuesday in Midland, Mich.
