TIFFIN, Ohio - The No. 24-ranked SVSU women's basketball team played at Tiffin University on Saturday (Dec. 10) afternoon, taking on the Dragons in a GLIAC matchup against the South Division opponents. The Cardinals were impressive in the contest, using double-digit scoring efforts from six players in securing a 100-72 road victory.
After the Dragons opened the game with an early three-pointer, the Cardinals responded in a huge way by rattling-off 17 straight points to take a 17-3 lead at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter. The run was capped-off by a triple from Francesca Coury. The lead stood at 18 points for SVSU when Anna Hall made good on a pair of free throw attempts, making the score 32-14 with 11 seconds left in the quarter. Tiffin would add two free throws as well after that to close-out the frame, making the score 32-16 after the first.
That lead would reach 20 points (36-16) after Grace Whelan opened the second quarter with four straight points. She would close-out the quarter in similar fashion, adding a layup and three-point play as time expired in the second to give the visitors a 56-36 lead heading into the halftime break.
Saginaw Valley posted a big third quarter as well, totaling 28 points in the 10 minutes of play while holding the Dragons to just 16. The Cardinals scored 10 straight points in the third to push the lead to 30 points at 66-36 with 7:21 showing on the clock, with Halee Nieman, Katelyn Carriere and Emily Wendling contributing to the effort.
The Cardinal lead would reach as much as 36 points, as SVSU held a 96-60 advantage with 3:43 to go in the game after Abby Duffy made a jump shot. The visitors would close-out for the victory, tacking-on four more points in securing a 100-72 win over the Dragons after Duffy drained four shots from the foul line to finish the team's scoring.

Six Cardinals posted double-digits in scoring, led by Duffy's career-high 19 points and game-high eight rebounds. She added an assist and a block in her 22 minutes off the bench. She was 4-of-6 from the floor and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in the victory. Duffy earned Meijer Player of the Game honors for her effort.

Whelan had a stellar game off the bench as well, going for 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line in her 18 minutes of action. She added three rebounds as well for SVSU.

Nieman added 15 points with four boards, an assist and steal in the game.

Hall registered 13 points, matching a season-best with a game-high eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block against the Dragons.

Carriere netted 12 points while Wendling had 11 with seven boards.

Coury added eight points off the bench as well for SVSU.

Saginaw Valley shot a stellar 62.7% (32-51) from the floor in the victory and held the Dragons to a 31.8% (21-66) mark.

The Cardinals converted on 32 of their 40 attempts from the free throw line.

The paint was owned by SVSU, 42-18, and the Cardinals held a 46-24 edge in rebounding and 45-26 edge in bench points.

The 100 points marks the first time the team has reached the century mark since 2013, when the Cards posted a 103-45 win over Marygrove on November 27.
