Sam Black joins the SVSU coaching staff after a successful career competing for the Cardinals track and field team.

Black was the 2021 NCAA DII Outdoor decathlon champion with 7583 points. It was the third All-American honor of his career, after taking home the award in 2017 and 2018. 

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named Black an All-Academic athlete in 2021 as well. 

He was named the GLIAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year as well in 2021.
