ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team claimed two conference titles on day two of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) outdoor championships.
Sarah Gray was the GLIAC champion in the heptathlon after recording two first-place finishes in the final three events to total 4,235 points. Olivia Carpenter joined her on the podium in second with 3,996 points. Kissling placed eighth with 3,419 points. Gray placed third in the 800m race of the heptathlon after a time of 2:44.59. Carpenter finished in fifth with a time of 2:45.60. Abby Kissling clocked a 2:47.57 for seventh. Gray was first in the javelin with a throw of 31.65m. Carpenter placed sixth (22.09m) and Kissling was 11th (19.05m). Gray also won the long jump with a leap of 5.00m. Carpenter was fifth with a 4.83m, and Kissling was seventh with 4.64m.
Xavier Santiago claimed his first GLIAC title after winning the men's high jump at a height of 2.10m. GLIAC Indoor Champion, Sawyer Moloy, placed fifth in the event after clearing the bar at 2.05m.
Nick McArdle and Adam Thomas both made the podium in the 10k. McArdle was second with a 31:25.84 and Thomas third with a 31:28.17. Jacob Walker placed fourth with a time of 31:35.86, while Noah Verlinde was sixth with a finish of 31:51.47.
Jordon Brown finished the 400m in 47.86 to qualify for the finals in the top spot. Ryan Mixon will join him in the final race after a time of 50.45, which is enough to qualify.
Trevor Culpepper had the fastest time in the men's 100m prelims with a 10.42.
Matthew Gazzarato and Ernest Morris also qualified for the men's 100m finals after prelim times of 10.62 for Gazzarato (fifth) and 10.72 for Morris (eighth).
Sophia Thelen qualified for the women's 100m finals after recording the second-quickest finish of 11.80. Thelen also made the 200m final after a time of 24.67 was fourth-best in the prelims. Karissa Picard had the second-best time in the women's 1500m prelims with a finish of 4:45.24.
Nate Niederquell had the third-best time in the 400m prelims with 54.70. He will race in the finals tomorrow. Makayla Fuerst will race in the women's 400m finals as her time of 1:06.56 earned her a spot. Jack Lobodzinski, Shane Siterlet, and Corey Bowers all qualified for the men's 1500m finals. Lobodzinski clocked the third-best time of 3:56.96. Siterlet was sixth with 4:00.24, and Bowers made the cut with his time of 4:05.26.
Quin Broussard set a new PR in the men's 200m with his time of 21.43 in the prelims, which ranked him fourth and earned him a spot in the final race tomorrow. Janae Hudson just missed the podium with a fourth-place toss of 47.34m in the women's hammer.
Noah Shaw placed fifth in the men's hammer with a throw of 53.46m. Daniel Yarrington was eighth with a PR of 43.80m in the event.
Jenna Picard will race in the finals of the women's 800m after she finished the second heat of the prelims with a time of 2:20.26.
Nick Bozarth finished the 3000m steeple in sixth with a time of 9:35.88. Alexis Tracy hit a PR for the 10k with a time of 37:51.63 to finish seventh in the race.
