Cardinal Men’s 4x100 Relay Breaks School Record at Hillsdale Tune-Up

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team competed at the Hillsdale College Tune-Up on Friday.

The meet was highlighted by the men's 4x100 relay team of Trevor Culpepper, Quin Broussard, Jordon Brown, and Matthew Gazzarato, who placed second with an NCAA DII Provisional time and a new SVSU school record of 40.25 seconds. Culpepper, Broussard, and Gazzarato all had top-eight times in the preliminaries of the men's 100-meter race. Brown had a great afternoon as he also hit an NCAA DII Provisional mark in the men's 400m with a time of 47.43 seconds.

Xavier Santiago won the men's high jump after clearing the bar at an NCAA Provisional height of 2.05m on his first attempt. Grace Collett came into the final race of the women's 100 hurdles with the second-fastest time of 14.24 before winning the event with a time of 14.25 seconds.

Noah Shaw and Lukas Ray highlighted the afternoon for the Cardinal throwers with second-place finishes to their credit. Shaw threw the discus for a PR of 47.42m, while Ray had a toss of 16.29m in the shot put. Shaw also placed seventh in the hammer with a 50.37m best mark.

Nolan Berg joined Ray in the top five of the shot after a throw of 13.81m. Berg was also sixth in the discus with a mark of 44.83m. Daniel Yarrington was seventh in the shot put after a throw of 13.38m.

Culpepper clocked the third-fastest time of 10.57 seconds, Broussard was fifth at 10.62 (PR for him), and Gazzarato was eighth at 10.82. Gazzarato was the only one of the trio to run in the finals of that event, placing sixth by hitting the same time he had in the prelims.

Sophia Thelen had the fastest time in the women's 100m preliminaries at 11.92, but did not race in the finals of the event. Thelen also recorded a third-place finish in the 200m race after clocking a time of 24.57 seconds. Both of her times were personal bests for her. Trinity Greer placed third in the 400m after finishing in 57.68. Autumn Morris was also third after a jump of 11.02m in the triple jump. Nate Niederquell finished third in the men's 400 hurdles with a PR of 54.56.

Tara Szuper registered fourth in the women's 5k after a time of 19:09.43. Teammate Emelia McDonald was sixth in the same race with a time of 20:08.47. Makayla Fuerst was fourth in the women's 400 hurdles after completing the race in a career-best time of 1:03.98. Braylon Silvas leaped 6.37m in the men's long jump to finish fourth in the event.

Clara Krupp was fifth in the 1500m race with a 4:55.15. She also placed ninth in the 400m after crossing the finish line in 1:02.23. Paul Gopez finished the men's 800m in fifth with a time of 1:56.46, a PR in that event for him. Isaac Zammit grabbed fifth in the men's 1500m race with a PR time of 4:03.82.

Abby Karst finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 32.87m. Fellow thrower, Janae Hudson, was also sixth in the hammer with a collegiate-best heave of 47.62m. Karst placed seventh in the javelin with a mark of 29.03m. Ryan Mixon placed sixth in the men's 400m with a time of 50.56. Alex Stoll clocked a 15.47 time in the men's 110 hurdle finals for sixth place in the race.

Madisyn Lundquist cleared the pole vault bar at 3.36m to finish seventh in the event. Chris Holt was seventh in the 400m after clocking a personal best, 50.56 seconds. Andy Foshag hit a PR in the 1500 with a time of 4:07.02 for seventh. He edged out teammate Jaron Wyma, who placed eighth in the race at 4:07.22. Wilson Tschirhart placed eighth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 4.22m. Wyatt Miller collected a top-eight finish in the men's 800m with a time of 2:02.62.
