UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams completed day one of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships with three podiums, two NCAA provisional marks, and a new school record on Saturday.
Olivia Carpenter highlighted the day for the Cardinals with a GLIAC Championship in the women's pentathlon. Carpenter tallied a PR of 3,089 points to win the multi-event championship. She set new PRs in both the 800 with 2:35.70 and the high jump at 1.52m. Carpenter placed in the top five in four of the five events to earn the GLIAC crown.
Trevor Culpepper broke his own SVSU record in the 60-meter prelims with a top time of 6.76 seconds. The NCAA Provisional mark is .02 seconds faster than the school record he set in January.
Chaniya Madison also earned the top time in the women's 60-meter dash prelims with a PR of 7.57. Madison is the defending GLIAC Champion in the event and enters the day-two final race in the top spot again.
Both the men's and women's distance medley relay teams placed second in the final event of the day. The men's team consisting of Kenny Lewis, Bryce Husen, Matthew Canales, and Corey Bowers earned the podium after finishing in 9:53.03. The women's team of Jenna Picard, Taylor Moyer, Clara Krupp, and Karissa Picard hit an NCAA Provisional time of 11:47.56 to make the podium.
Nick McArdle was the final Cardinal to earn a spot on the podium after finishing the 5k with a third-best time of 14:26.81, a PR for McArdle.
Angelina Delbosque qualified for the finals in both the 200m and the 60m. She tallied a new PR in the 200m with the second-fastest time of 24.82 seconds. She was sixth in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.76, which matches her PR in that event.
Trinity Greer was the final SVSU women's sprinter to qualify for a final race with her 57.58 mark in the 400m.
KJ Jackson II and Matthew Gazzarato earned a spot in the 60m finals after their times of 6.95 and 7.00. Alex Stoll finished the 60 hurdles in 8.56 for a spot in the finals of that event.
