UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team hosted the annual Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Men's sprinter Trevor Culpepper highlighted the meet when he broke the SVSU indoor record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.78 seconds on Saturday afternoon.
Culpepper completed his afternoon with a new PR time in the 200m after finishing the race in 21.85 seconds. Sawyer Moloy also had a big day on the men's side as he set a new PR in his win of the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.18m. The freshman set the bar at 2.21m (the SVSU Indoor Record) and just barely missed on his final two jumps at that height.
The women celebrated a win in the 60m by Chaniya Madison who clocked a new PR at 7.67. During the two-day meet, SVSU collected 13 top-three finishes between the men and women.
Janae Hudson finished top three in both the shot put and the weight throw. Her mark of 12.52m in the shot was good for second while her PR heave of 15.03m in the weight earned her third. Sophia Thelen was second in the 200m with a time of 25.03. Thelen was also third in the 60m finals with a time of 7.81. She collected a PR time of 7.76 in the prelims to earn her spot in the final race. Madisyn Lundquist and Angelina Delbosque were the last two top-three finishes for the women's team. Lundquist hit a PR in the pole vault at 3.57m to place, while Delbosque was third in the 200m with a time of 25.05.
Corey Bowers and Xavier Santiago each finished second in their respective events. Bowers completed the mile in 4:12.76 and Santiago cleared the high jump bar at 1.95m to match his PR and finish in the runner-up spot. Lukas Ray was third in the shot put with a heave of 15.66m to complete the top-three performances for the Cardinals.
Delbosque had a fourth-place showing in the women's 60m after crossing the finish line at 7.89. Karissa Picard registered fourth in the 3000m with a time of 10:19.38. Jenna Sweeney placed fifth finish in the 3000m at 10:23.30. Olivia Carpenter was the final top-five finisher for the SVSU women with a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles at 9.16 seconds.
Kenny Lewis and Matt Canales contributed two fourth-place times in the mile and 800m respectively. Lewis finished the final lap at 4:15.86 and Canales crossed at 1:54.77, a PR for him in the 800m.
