Cheyenne Nesbitt Makes History with Fourth-Straight Heptathlon National Title on Day Two of Outdoor National Championships

EMPORIA, KAN. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field representatives at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships had a phenomenal day. The outing was highlighted by senior Cheyenne Nesbitt who made history as she won her fourth-straight National Championship in the Heptathlon with a school record score of 6002.

Nesbitt is the first woman in NCAA history, in any division, to win four consecutive heptathlon titles. Her point total ranks second all-time in NCAA Division II and it makes her the third woman in Division II to break the 6000-point mark. Her four consecutive heptathlon crowns make her one of six D2 women's athletes to achieve such a streak in their respective events.

The Bay City, Michigan native entered day two leading the pack. She secured her championship with a first-place finish in the long jump at 5.77m. She was ninth in the javelin with a heave of 36.01 and finished things out with a second-place showing in the 800m after a time of 2:19.14.

Ryan Brenner earned his second All-America award in the Decathlon after finishing with a personal best total score of 7198 for seventh place. Brenner finished top-10 in four of the five events today including three top-five finishes in the javelin (2nd, 56.24m), pole vault (3rd, 4.60m), and the 1500m (5th, 4:42.03).

Alexa Keiser joined Nesbitt and Brenner on the podium with a school record time of 10:23.73 in the 3000m steeplechase that had her finish fifth and earn her first individual All-America distinction, the third of her career.

The women's 4x400 relay team made up of Trinity Greer, Cassie Campbell, Sophia Thelen, and Alona Olshevska missed the cut to the finals after completing the race with a time of 3:49.63.

UP NEXT

Three Cardinals and the women's 4x100 relay team will compete on the final day of competition tomorrow, May 25. Nesbitt will defend her high jump championship at 2:45 PM EST. The 4x100 squad of Thelen, Olshevska, Angelina Delbosque, and Nesbitt will race at 3:10 PM. Dominic Suliman competes in the 1500m finals at 3:35 PM and Olshevska will end things with the women's 400 final at 4:15 PM EST.
