Nine Cardinals Qualify for NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Nine student-athletes from Saginaw Valley State University qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships when the performers were announced on Tuesday night.

Dominic Suliman and Ryan Brenner will represent the men's team in two events, while Cassie Campbell, Angelina Delbosque, Trinity Greer, Alexa Keiser, Cheyenne Nesbitt, Alona Olshevska, and Sophia Thelen qualified for five individual events and two relays.

Dominic Suliman returns to the national stage after earning All-America in the indoor championships earlier this year. He will compete in the 1500-meter run with his school record time of 3:43.41 and enter eighth.

Ryan Brenner competes in the decathlon where he ranks 13th with his season-high score of 7058. Brenner earned All-America status in the decathlon at last year's outdoor national championship meet.

Cassie Campbell qualifies for the outdoor meet for the first time in her career. She competed in the indoor meet as a member of the women's 4x400 relay team. She will run the same race in the outdoor meet along with Trinity Greer, Alona Olshevska, and Cheyenne Nesbitt. That group had a season-best time of 3:42.29 to come into nationals ranked 20th.

Angelina Delbosque qualifies for the first time as a member of the 10th-ranked 4x100 team with Sophia Thelen, Olshevska, and Nesbitt with a season-low time of 45.22.

Alexa Keiser holds the 13th-best time in the 3000m steeplechase with her school-record time of 10:27.04. She earned All-America in the 2021 indoor championships in the DMR. This is her second consecutive outdoor qualification in the steeplechase.

Alona Olshevska will compete in both the women's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. She will also compete as an individual in the 400, where she ranks 10th with a time of 53.39 coming into the national meet. Olshevska ran in the outdoor 400 three seasons ago (2021) where she was an All-American.

The final qualifier is Cheyenne Nesbitt. She will compete in both relay teams and multiple individual events. She comes in ranked second in the heptathlon, an event she has won the national title in for the past three seasons. Nesbitt will also compete in the 100 hurdles and high jump. She is fourth in the hurdles and fifth in the high jump.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place on May 23-25 in Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.
