Cardinals Claim Two GLIAC Crowns on Day Two of Outdoor Championships

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team claimed two GLIAC Outdoor titles after the second day of the conference championship meet. The women's team currently sits second in the team standings with 30 points while the men are fourth with 35.

Cheyenne Nesbitt led the way with a win in the long jump after a mark of 6.12m. Nesbitt also had the top time in the 100 hurdles preliminaries with her time of 13.25 seconds. She also finished fourth in the javelin with a heave of 37.96m.

Christian Purchase-Ofoeme won the decathlon with 6596 points. He finished first in six of the ten events to claim his first outdoor championship. Purchase-Ofoeme also competed in the long jump where he finished seventh after jumping 6.73m.

Alona Olshevska had the best time in the preliminaries of the 400 and 200. She clocked a 55.37 in the 400 and a 24.05 in the 200 to advance to the finals of the events tomorrow. Cassie Campbell had the best time in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.26. Cassie Campbell also qualified for the finals of the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.97.

Nick Bozarth made the podium of the steeplechase with his second-place time of 9:19.11. Ericka Jackson earned a second-place podium in the javelin with her throw of 42.16m. Ryan Brenner placed third in the javelin with a toss of 52.98m to make his way to the podium. Brenner also competed in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.89m to place ninth. Trinity Greer qualified for the finals in the 400 after a time of 57.30.

Bryce Husen hit a qualifying time in the 800 after completing the race in 1:54.05. Alexa Keiser qualified for the finals of the 1500 with a time of 4:41.07. Justin Roose qualified on the men's side of the 1500 with his time of 3:57.10. Trevor Culpepper finished the 100 prelims in 10.47 to be in the finals tomorrow. Nate Niederquell ran the 400 hurdles in 56.42 to make the final race. Quin Broussard made the finals in the 200 after a finish of 21.58 in the preliminaries. Andrew Quinn finished fourth in the hammer after a throw of 52.43m.

Seth Oxer will race in the 400 hurdle finals tomorrow after a fifth-best time of 57.78. Alex Stoll finished fifth in the 110 hurdles to qualify for the final race with a time of 15.17. Tyler Burrell made the finals of the 400 with a time of 50.48. Quin Broussard finished the 100 in 10.67 to advance to the finals. Cameron Sherrill completed the 800 preliminaries with a time of 1:54.12 to move on to the finals. Graham Jones placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 48.03m.

Corey Bowers and Alexa Keiser move on to the finals of the 1500 and the 800. Bowers had a time of 3:57.78 in the 1500 while Keiser clocked a time of 2:16.21 in the 800. Dominic Suliman finished the 800 in 1:55.15 to move to the finals tomorrow. Daniel Barger made the cut in the 200 with a time of 22.28. Grace Collett (100H, 14.75), Matthew Gazzarato (100, 10.79), Sophia Thelen (200, 24.86), Karissa Picard (1500, 4:45.13), and Shane Siterlet (1500, 3:59.44) all qualified for the final race in their respective events.

The meet continues tomorrow with the men's and women's 10K beginning at 9:40 AM.
