GLIAC honors Olshevska with prestigious Commissioner's Award

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -  The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the winners of the Spring 2022 GLIAC Commissioner's Awards on Monday, with Saginaw Valley State University star women's track sprinter Alona Olshevska among the recipients.

Olshevska had an outstanding season in both the indoor and outdoor campaigns for SVSU track & field. During the indoor season, the Wayne, Mich., native was named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Meet at the GLIAC Indoor Championships, claiming the conference title in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. She went on to take home All-American honors in the same two events at the NCAA DII National Indoor Championships.

During the outdoor season, Olshevska was named the GLIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and qualified in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the NCAA DII National Outdoor Championships. Recently, she was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the first time in her career. This season, Olshevska set four SVSU program records and has a career total of seven NCAA DII All-American awards. 

The awards are presented after the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and in competition.
