RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Saginaw Valley State University track and field team opened their outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays this weekend hosted by North Carolina State University. The meet was contested Thursday-Saturday.
Women's Highlights:
- Arianna Wegienka ran a time of 35:53.93 in the women's 10,000-meter run on Thursday night.
- In the 1500-meter race on Friday, Alexa Keiser posted a time of 4:31.02, while Lauren Buckner ran 4:35.34.
- Buckner also competed in the 800-meter run and ran 2:15.00. Also running in the event was Jenna Picard, who crossed the finish line with a time of 2:13.83.
Men's Highlights:
- Corey Bowers broke the school record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:46.29. He also competed in the 800-meter run and ran 1:54.16.
- Also running the 800 and 1500-meter races was Brendan Nesbitt. The senior posted a time of 1:53.41 in the 800-meter race, and 3:54.01 in the 1500-meter run.
- Dominic Suliman and Ryan Talbott both ran the 1500-meter race, with Talbott running 3:52.32 and Suliman recording a time of 3:53.34.
- Also setting a new school record was CarLee Stimpfel in the 10,000-meter run. The native of Cass City, Mich., ran a time of 29:08.96 to beat the record by just over a second. Dayton Brown also ran in the 10,000-meter event and posted a time of 29:32.38.
