Olshevska, Williamson take top honors at GLIAC Indoor Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University track & field teams concluded the 2022 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon from Grand Valley State University.

The Cardinals finished runner-up behind the host Lakers in the women's team standings with 130.5 points, while the men finished fourth with 73 points. Following the meet, Cheyenne Williamson was named the GLIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Field Athlete of the Meet, Field Athlete of the Year, and High-Point Athlete of the Meet. Alona Olshevska was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet. 

Women's Highlights:

  • Alona Olshevska won the 200-meter dash GLIAC title with a time of 24.36 seconds (NCAA P), and crossed the line first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.32 seconds (NCAA P).
  • Cheyenne Williamson finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.69 seconds (NCAA P), giving the Cardinals a 1-2 finish in the event. Williamson also took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters (NCAA P).
  • Alexa Cross gave SVSU a 1-2 finish in the 400-meter dash as she crossed the line in 57.80 seconds behind Olshevska. 
  • In the mile run, Alexa Keiser crossed the line in fourth-place in 4:53.19 (NCAA P).
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Cross, Sophia Thelen, Kelsey Landra, and Olivia Carpenter finished third with a time of 3:57.77.
