SVSU Track & Field Hosts "Doug Hansen" Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track & field team hosted the SVSU "Doug Hansen" Open. The Cardinals hosted the second meet of the year in the Fieldhouse on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. 

Bria Williams crossed the finish line in second for the Cardinals in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.11.

D'Omar Boyden finished second in the men's 60 meter hurdles and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships for a second time with a time of 8.25.

DeAnna Stickler-Gatson posted a second place win in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line at 58.41.

In the men's 400 meter dash, freshman Blake Oakes and sophomore Shawn Stewart finished third and fourth, respectively. Oakes posted a time of 50.96, closely followed by Stewart at 50.99.

Dominque Smith posted a first place win the 60 meter dash, recording a time of 7.86. Kimberly Balls finished fourth in the race, recording a time of 7.98.

In the 200 meter dash, Ce'Aira Richardson crossed the finish line in second with a time of 25.42.

Thomas Kean recorded a time of 9:11.85 in the 3,000 meter run, posting a third place finish for Saginaw Valley.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Ola Hendler, DeAnna Stickler-Gatson, Sidney Bischer and Lina Davis finished second, with a final time of 3:57.95.

In the same race, the men's team took first place. Blake Oakes, Shawn Stewart, James Cousins, and Brandon Love finished the race at 3:26.86.

In the field events, Emerald Joiner finished third in the women's weight throw with a final distance of 16.31 meters. Joiner provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships for a second time season and finished second in the shot put event, throwing 13.71 meters.

Robert Tarpley posted a first place finish in the men's long jump with a final distance of 6.97. Robert Atwater took second, posting a distance of 6.84 meters.

Tarpley also took first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.77 meters.

Devin Hartnagle finished first and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships for the third time this season in the men's weight throw, posting a distance of 17.38 meters. Ben Morrow took third in the event, posting a distance of 16.08 meters.

In the men's high jump, Sam Black notched a first place win, crossing the bar at 1.98 meters.

Anna Fochesato landed at second in the women's triple jump event, recording a distance of 11.34 meters

The Cardinals return to the oval next Friday and Saturday, January 29th and 30th, when they host the Jets Pizza Invitational.  The events starts at 4:30 pm on Friday and at 10:00 am on Saturday in the SVSU Fieldhouse.
