INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program wrapped up day four of five at the NCAA Division II National Championships Friday. They had three swimmers in competition at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Alexa Hieber led the way in the 500-yard freestyle where she entered as the 37th seed and finished 21st, moving up 16 spots. Her mark of 4:57.39 broke the program record from 2019 by 2.24 seconds.
Benjamin Wainman also swam in the 500-yard freestyle prelims Friday morning. He entered the event as the 32nd seed and moved up five spots with a time of 4:30.50, finishing in 27th. Wainman was 2.22 seconds behind his record time earlier this season.
Alvaro Rodriguez swam in his second event, the 200-yard butterfly. He entered 17th and finished 17th with a time of 1:47.45.
Up Next: Rodriguez has one more event at nationals swimming in the 400-yard freestyle relay on Saturday, March 15. Hieber and Wainman have a third event on the final day of the meet swimming in the 1650-yard freestyle. Prelims are set for 10:00 AM with the finals at 5:30 PM EDT from IUPUI Natatorium.
