HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program wrapped up the GLIAC Championships at the Holland Aquatic Center on Saturday. Both teams finished in fifth place with the women scoring 315 points and the men scoring 369 for a program total of 684.
On Saturday, SVSU had four podium finishes with Benjamin Wainman and Alexa Hieber in the 1650-yard freestyle and both of the relay teams in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Wainman had the best finish as he took second in the mile with a Division II B Cut standard time of 15:21.23. Hieber took fifth in the mile as she broke her record with a time of 17:11.10. It was the fifth record time over the four-day meet for SVSU and is a DII B Cut mark.
For the relays, the men's team took fourth with a DII B Cut time as Logan Fox, Adam Bebars, Lyon Hall, and A'lmos Szedlak finished with a time of 2:57.28. The women's team of Hieber, Samantha Fowler, Ella DesJean, and Roni Markwood took fifth place with a finish of 3:31.62.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley swimming and diving awaits the announcement of the NCAA DII Championships Committee to announce the qualifiers. The five-day meet takes place from March 11 to March 15 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
