HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program had another program record time on day three of the GLIAC Championships at the Holland Aquatic Center. There were eight top-eight finishes and four Division II B Cut standard times for the men's and women's teams.
Alvaro Rodriguez had the best finish of the day as the freshman broke his own 200-yard butterfly record. Rodriguez took second with a DII B Cut time of 1:46.81. The other three DII B Cut times came from Alexa Hieber, Benjamin Wainman, and Logan Fox. Hieber took sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.98 and Wainman took fifth in the same event with a mark of 4:31.05. Fox took sixth as well in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in 54.01 seconds.
Both 800-yard freestyle relay teams took fourth place on Friday. Hieber, Samantha Fowler, Kylie Clark, and Ella DesJean finished with a time of 7:44.70 and A'lmos Szedlak, Isaac deVries, Adam Bebars, and Fox had a time of 6:36.61.
The final top-eight finishes came from Hannah Martin Cook who took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.73 seconds and from diver Cailey Mills who scored 366.60 in the 3-meter dives, placing seventh.
Up Next: Saginaw Valley swimming and diving finishes the GLIAC Championships on Saturday. Both teams sit in fifth place currently heading into the final day. Prelims are set for 10:00 AM and the finals for 5:30 PM EST at the Holland Aquatic Center.
