HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program got back in the pool for day two of the GLIAC Championships on Thursday. The teams combined for five top-eight finishes over the nine events and set a new program record.
A'lmos Szedlak broke his own record from last season in the 400-yard medley relay. He finished fifth place with a time of 3:56.53 beating his previous time be less than a second. The mark was also one of three Division II B cut finishes for SVSU. The other two were Alvaro Rodriguez's 48.09 second finish in the 100-yard butterfly and Isaac deVries 1:39.22 finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Other top finishes came in both the women's and men's 400-yard medley relay. The women's team of Hannah Martin Cook, Grace Charnstrom, Nina Pavlovic Cano, and Roni Markwood finished fifth with a time of 3:52.16. The men's team of Hadyn Gould, Josh Rottier, Rodriguez, and Szedlak took sixth place with a mark of 3:16.80.
Up Next: Half of the GLIAC Championships remain with day three of four on Friday. Prelims of day three at the Holland Aquatic Center are set for 10:00 AM with the finals at 5:30 PM EST.
