Women’s Swim and Dive Takes Down Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving was set to compete against Hillsdale and Ashland Saturday afternoon in Hillsdale, Michigan. With inclement weather, Ashland did not compete so SVSU's women's program took on the Chargers while the men's program had an intrasquad meet. The women's program defeated Hillsdale 166-65, taking first place in 12 of the 13 events.

Alexa Hieber had a big performance winning both the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle while also taking third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Emily Solarski, Hannah Martin Cook, and Nina Pavlovic Cano. Hieber set the Hillsdale pool record in the 1000-yard with a time of 10:36.68.

Cailey Mills took first in both dives with scores of 231.83 and 237.60 in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Samantha Fowler took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 54.60 seconds and finished first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:35.44. She also helped the relay team of Ella Banning, Jenna Schmitt, and Pavlovic Cano in the 400-yard medley relay finish first with a time of 4:04.80.

Coming off his fourth GLIAC swimmer of the week award, Benjamin Wainman took first in three events. He won the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyles and the 400-yard individual medley. He finished those events with times of 4:37.65, 9:20.98, and 4:08.30.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley swimming and diving returns home for the first time in over two months. They host Lake Superior State for back-to-back days on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25. Those meets are set for 6:00 PM EST and 11:00 AM EST from the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
