MIAMI – Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving senior, Benjamin Wainman, competed at the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) College National Open Water Championship Sunday morning. The event was held at Florida International University and showcased nearly 240 student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA programs.
The championship included a women's and men's 5K as they swam in the Biscayne Bay. Wainman took first out of 103 in the men's 5K finishing with a time of one hour and 41 seconds. Head coach Jason Lintjer said this,
"Ben swam a perfect race and paced it very well. It's amazing to see him beat several DI swimmers. Ben is just an absolute monster. This was a huge accomplishment for his career."
Up Next: Wainman and the Saginaw Valley swimming and diving program get back in the pool on Saturday, January 4. They head to Wayne State and compete in the Matthaei Natatorium at 1:00 PM in Detroit.
