UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University men's swimming and diving senior Benjamin Wainman was named Men's Swimmer of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) office on Monday.
SVSU swim and dive competed at Northern Michigan twice this weekend swimming against the Wildcats Friday night and against NMU and Grand Valley Saturday morning. Wainman took first place in the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle on Saturday with times of 4:33.15 and 9:14.71, both being NCAA DII B Cut times. The mark of 9:14.71 set the NMU pool record at the PEIF Pool.
This is the second Athlete of the Week award for Saginaw Valley swim and dive in the 2024-25 season and the second for Wainman. It is the third of his career earning one on October 8 this year and one in the final week of the 2023-24 season.
