UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University men's swimming and diving senior Benjamin Wainman was named Men's Swimmer of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) office on Tuesday. SVSU swim and dive opened up the season hosting Alma College on Saturday. The men's team came away with a 233-42 victory taking first place in all 16 events.
Wainman took first in both the 1650-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle with times of 15:30.21 and 4:33.59 respectively. He also took third in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 48.36 seconds. Lastly, Wainman was the second leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that took first place with a time of 3:10.51.
This is the first Athlete of the Week award for Saginaw Valley swim and dive in the 2024-25 season and the first for Wainman. It is the second of his career after earning the title in the final week of the 2023-24 season.
