Robles Ruiz Wins Again and the Cardinals Break Three More Records in Day Three of the GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving program continued their successful weekend at the GLIAC Championships at the Holland Aquatic Center Sunday. The program has had 12 record breaking times so far through the three days of competition.

The big news starts with Alejandro Robles Ruiz winning his second event of the weekend as he took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.80, also setting the program record. Almos Szedlak also broke the school record in the 200-yard butterfly with his time of 1:50.27 in the preliminary rounds. Also, the Cardinals had another NCAA DII Championship qualifying time with the team of Robles Ruiz, Szedlak, Isaac deVries, and Logan Fox as they took third in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:33.87.

On the women's side, the team of Alexa Hieber, Ava Frick, Samantha Fowler, and Andrea Bustos set the program record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:40.49. Hieber also hit a NCAA DII B cut time in the 500-yard freestyle finishing in 5:00.15, just .52 seconds off the program record.

Other DII B cut times included Benjamin Wainman finishing the 500-yard freestyle in 4:30.56 and Fox completing the 100-yard breaststroke in 53.98. In the men's 3-meter dive, Rory Kauffman scored 400.65 points and took sixth along with Sam Hudgens taking 14th with a score of 362.95.

The GLIAC Championships wrap up on Monday with the final day from the Holland Aquatic Center.
