HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving program had another big day in the pool at the GLIAC Championships at the Holland Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Cardinals set three program records along with Alejandro Robles Ruiz becoming the first male individual to win a GLIAC Championship event for SVSU.

Another record for the men's program was set by Almos Szedlak completing the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:57.49, beating his previous time of 3:58.32 set last year. The men also time trialed the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Robles Ruiz, Eric Slabbert, Szedlak, and Logan Fox. They completed the event with a time of 1:19.78 breaking the program record and qualifying for the NCAA DII Championships in early March.

Samanatha Fowler had a big performance in the 400-yard individual medley. Fowler finished seventh with a DII B cut time of 4:26.57. Alexa Hieber finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.19, just over a second short of a B cut time. Kaylee Smith also placed eighth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 369.40.
