Swim & Dive Breaks Six Program Records at First Day of GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving program had a massive day one of the GLIAC Championships on Friday at the Holland Aquatic Center. The men's team set five records while the women's team set one.

Alexa Hieber placed sixth in the 1000-yard freestyle breaking the school record with a time of 10:14.03. That beat her own record set earlier this year by 4.8 seconds

Benjamin Wainman also set the record for the 1000-yard freestyle. Wainman took second with a time of 9:12.34 shaving off over seven seconds off his previous record time set this season. There were two relay records broken for the men's side. Alejandro Robles Ruiz, Christian Rottier, Logan Fox, and Josh Rottier took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a record time of 1:27.82. Robles Ruiz, Joshua Rottier, Almos Szedlak, and Fox also took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a record time of 1:20.51. Robles Ruiz's lead off time of 20.10 in the 50-yard freestyle portion of the relay breaks his 50-yard freestyle record he set in 2022 by .21 seconds. The last record for the men came from Logan Fox and his second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Fox finished with a time of 1:47.14, just over a second off his record set this season.

Other finishes include a fifth-place time for the women in the 200-yard medley relay with Hannah Martin Cook, Grace Charnstrom, Flora Mia Szklenar, and Veronica Markwood finishing with a time of 1:45.23. Charnstrom, Andrea Bustos, Ella Yantz, Markwood also took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay 1:36.80. Another strong finish for the men was Rory Kauffman placing seventh in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 377.30.

GLIAC Championships continue from the Holland Aquatic Center Saturday with day two of four.
