Caird, Guryeva sweep GLIAC women's awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving teams traveled to East Kentwood High School to compete against Davenport University and Grand Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tri-meet on Saturday. The women defeated Davenport 150-108, and fell to the Lakers 166-92.

Senior diver Libby Caird once again swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The Jenison, Mich., native posted a score of 269.00 points in the 1-meter dive and scored 279.65 points in the 3-meter event.

For her efforts, Caird has been named GLIAC Diver of the Week for the fifth time this season. She has swept the diving events in every meet this season. 

Tonya Guryeva won the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 23.76 seconds and took the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 51.66.

The senior has been named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for her performances. She currently ranks second in the conference in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. 

SVSU will host Wayne State University on Senior Day at 1 pm next Saturday at the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
