HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving teams returned to competition on Saturday against Ashland and Hillsdale in Hillsdale, Mich.
On the men's side, the Cardinals defeated Ashland University 167-67, while the women fell to host Hillsdale 114-113 and picked up the win over Ashland 156-80.
Women's Highlights:
- Sydney Shipps was the winner of the 1,000-yard freestyle race with a time of 11:01.54.
- Tonya Guryeva earned victories in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:56.09 and 5:20.22.
- Libby Caird swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The senior finished first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 269.40 points and first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 276.00 points.
- Shipps, Piper St. Clair, Emma Cornell, and Kimble Darbee took second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.80.
Men's Highlights:
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Alejandro Robles Ruiz, Joao Pedro Noguera, Josh Rottier, and Christian Rottier claimed victory with a time of 1:34.86.
- Robles Ruiz was also victorious in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:14.92 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:52.11.
- Adrien McGill took first place in both diving events. The sophomore scored 268.65 points in the 1-meter dive, and 279.55 points in the 3-meter event.
- The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Eric Slabbert, Kyle Amick, Sanders Modglin, and Gavin Crews closed the meet with a first place finish for the Cardinals, finishing with a time of 1:27.08.

SVSU will travel to Davenport University next Saturday to face the host Panthers and Grand Valley State University at 1 pm in Kentwood, Mich.
