UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving teams had a busy weekend, as the Cardinals traveled to Grand Valley State University on Friday, and hosted Findlay University on Saturday. On Friday at GVSU, the host Lakers came out on top, with the men winning 188-55 and the women defeating SVSU 159-84. On Saturday, the Cardinals defeated the visiting Oilers on the women's side 128-113, while the men narrowly fell to Findlay 120-117. 

Women's Highlights: 

• Libby Caird qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday, as she won the 1-meter dive with a score of 255.82 and the 3-meter dive with 276.82 points. Caird also won the diving events on Saturday with scores of 249.05 in the 1-meter and 259.15 in the 3-meter event.
• Flora Mia Szklenar won the women's 200-yard butterfly on Friday at GVSU with a time of 2:11.87. On Saturday she won the 400-yard individual medley event with a time of 4:47.33. She also took the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.97 and took the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:57.23. 
• Emma Cornell won the women's 50-yard freestyle on Saturday with a time of 25.05.
• Tonya Guryeva was the winner of the women's 100-yard freestyle Saturday with a time of 53.80. 

Men's Highlights:

• Matteo Capotosti won the men's 500-yard freestyle on Friday night at GVSU with a time of 4:43.27. 
• On Saturday against Findlay, Capotosti won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.97. He also won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:46.74 and took second in the 400-yard IM. His time of 4:11.37 in the 400-yard individual medley was three seconds off the school record.
• Alejandro Robles Ruiz won the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday with a time of 1:41.76, just missing the school record by .7 seconds.
• Adrien McGill won both diving events on Saturday. The sophomore from Grand Ledge, Mich., won the 1-meter event with 237.40 points and the 3-meter event with 255.30 points. 
• Ruiz was a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Eric Slabbert, Kyle Amick, and Joao Pedro Noguera that closed Saturday's meet with a time of 1:24.11.

"It was a hard-fought battle. I was especially happy with how we performed with meets back-to-back. Hats off to the women's team for pulling out the victory. They won a lot of close races. We would have liked to win the men's meet, but we did a great job and I'm happy with where we're at in the season. Both the men and women showed a lot of grit today."

The Cardinals will remain at home for a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday against Northern Michigan University from the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
