KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming & diving teams traveled to Kalamazoo College for a tri-meet with the host Hornets and the Alma College Scots on Saturday. On the men's side, the Cardinals defeated Kalamazoo 217-78 and Alma 223-45. The women also defeated Kalamazoo and Alma 208-83 and 216-50, respectively.
Women's Highlights:
- The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Erin McDowell, Flora Mia Szklenar, Tonya Guryeva, and Lisette Fenneuff won the event with a time of 1:50.04.
- Szklenar won the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:56.97 and the 200 butterfly race in 2:10.24. She took the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.90.
- Guryeva was the winner of the 50 free event in 24.99
- Libby Caird won the 1-meter dive with a score of 250.20 points and the 3-meter dive with 261.70 points
- Kimble Darbee finished second in both the 100 and 200 fly events. She swam 2:13.98 in the 200 and 1:01.03 in the 100.
Men's Highlights:
- Alejandro Robles Ruiz broke the SVSU school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.09.
- The team of Ruiz, Christian Rottier, Joao Pedro Noguera, and Eric Slabbert won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.77.
- Logan Fox won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.38.
- Adrien McGill won the 1 and 3-meter diving events with scores of 243.30 points in the 1-meter event and 238.55 in the 3-meter event.
- The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Noguera, Gavin Crews, Kyle Amick, and Josh Rottier finished first with a time of 1:25.41.

"I think we competed really well today. We have a ton of freshmen so I was excited to see how they would perform. Our entire team came together and did a great job. I was especially excited to see Alex get the school record in the 200 back."
Up next the Cardinals travel to Grand Valley State University for a dual at 5 pm Friday in Allendale, Mich.
