Macy Irelan Claims Seventh GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Honor After Second No-Hitter of the Season

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University pitcher Macy Irelan was awarded the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) pitcher of the week award for the seventh time this season when the league office announced the softball winners on Monday afternoon.

Irelan completed the week going 2-0 in the circle for the Cardinals. The junior began with a 4-2 win over Findlay on the road, where she set a career-high for strikeouts in a game with 17 against the Oilers. It was the seventh time this season that she struck out 10+ batters in a single game. She followed that performance up with her second no-hitter in a 13-0 win in game two of the doubleheader at Davenport on Friday. She was three walks away from a perfect game and made it eight double-digit strikeout performances of the season, with 10 Panthers sitting down on strikes. Irelan currently ranks third in NCAA Division II in WHIP, fourth in hits allowed per seven innings, fifth in strikeouts per seven innings, 11th in strikeout-to-walk ratio, 16th in strikeouts, and 17th in ERA.

The Cardinals clinched the GLIAC regular season championship on Saturday in the game one win over Ferris State. SVSU will now face rival Northwood in a non-conference doubleheader in Midland, Michigan, tomorrow before concluding the regular season with league doubleheaders at Grand Valley State (Friday, April 25) and Purdue Northwest (Saturday, April 26).
