UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University junior Olivia Elliott was name the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) softball player of the week and sophomore Aalana Kimble earned pitcher of the week to sweep the weekly awards for the Cardinals.
Olivia Elliott had a dominant week for the Cardinals as she went 11-for-16 with 16 RBI and four home runs, including a grand slam in game one at PNW. She led the team in hits, home runs, RBI, and batting average (.688) for the week. She hit a home run in four of the six games this week, including a streak of three-straight games with a home run in the two games against the Pride and game one on Sunday versus GVSU.
Aalana Kimble made three appearances for SVSU in the circle this week. She went 3-0 in those showings and totaled 23 strikeouts, including a 12 K game against Ferris State that set a career high in that category. It was also the first time in her collegiate career that she recorded 10+ strikeouts in a single game. She finished the week allowing just two earned runs and an ERA of 0.93 with 15.0 innings of work.
It is the first athlete of the week awards for both Elliott and Kimble in their Cardinal career. They are the seventh and eighth overall conference weekly awards for the SVSU softball team and the second sweep of the awards this season.
The Cardinals host GLIAC opponent Wayne State on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. (ET). SVSU will also host Parkside on Saturday and Roosevelt on Sunday for two more conference doubleheaders.
