UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Saginaw Valley State University junior pitcher Macy Irelan was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season when the league office announced the weekly awards on Monday.
Irelan got off to a hot start in her home debut for the Cardinals as she struck out six of the first 10 Davenport batters she faced through the first three innings of game one. She ended the afternoon with eight strikeouts and allowed just one hit to complete her ninth game of the season (1st in the GLIAC) and improve to 6-3 in the circle with one save so far this season. Irelan currently leads the GLIAC in hits allowed per seven innings with 3.35 (2nd in NCAA DII), shutouts with two, strikeout-to-walk ratio with 6.47 (24th NCAA DII), strikeouts with 97, strikeouts per seven innings with 10.8 (4th NCAA DII), and a WHIP of 0.72, which is third best in the country, She also has the second-lowest ERA in the league with 1.34, which is 23rd in the nation.
The Cardinals have three road doubleheaders this week with the first at Wayne State on Wednesday (3:30/5:30 PM). SVSU will travel to Chicago to face GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt on Saturday (1/3 PM) before ending the long trek in Kenosha to play Parkside on Sunday (12/2 PM).
