Cardinals Sweep GLIAC Player of the Week Awards

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – Saginaw Valley State University softball seniors Sydney Herioux and Emily Depew claim both Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekly awards after monster performances last week.

Herioux was named GLIAC Softball Player of the Week after finishing the week 8-for-11 at the plate with seven RBI, three runs, and a home run. She was 6-for-7 with runners on base, 3-for-4 with two outs, 4-for-5 with an RBI opportunity, and reached base all three times she was the leadoff hitter for the Cardinals through four games.

Depew earned GLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week after she earned two more wins last week to improve to 8-4 for the season. She made three appearances and pitched 14 innings while giving up just two earned runs and recording 16 strikeouts. The Lowell, Michigan native allowed just 10 hits while facing 54 batters. She held opponent leadoff hitters to 3-for-14 at the plate and held opponents to 3-for-18 with two outs and 6-for-23 with runners. Was one error and one hit short of a perfect game in the 9-0 win over Parkside in game one on Friday.

The Cardinals begin a two-game road trip on Saturday when they play at Wayne State for a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM EST.
