Softball Sweeps Holy Family

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team swept Holy Family with a 2-1 win in game one and a 9-0 win in five innings in game two on Wednesday.

GAME 1 – SVSU 2 – Holy Family 1

Aalana Kimble made her fifth start in the circle for the Cardinals. She tallied six strikeouts, one run, and five hits in the 2-1 win.

Mya Purdy scored on an inside-the-park home run to left field for the 1-0 lead. Alyssa Muench followed with a home run to left field on the next play to double the lead after the first inning.

The Tigers cut the deficit in half with a single to right field, but the SVSU defense held firm to secure the victory.

Five Cardinals recorded a hit with Purdy and Muench leading with a run and an RBI.

GAME 2 – SVSU 9 – Holy Family 0 (5 Innings)

The Cardinals got off to a hot start in game two with two runs in the opening frame. The first came off a double to left field by Kimble that scored Ella Reifschneider. Paige Kolinski added the second with a single to left field that brought Kimble across the plate for the early 2-0 lead.

The third inning saw five more runs for SVSU with Olivia Sabin hitting a double to left field to score both Sara Moos and Kolinski. Reifschneider added two more with a triple to center field to bring Sydney Herioux and Maddie Campagna home to increase the lead to 6-0. Reifschneider then scored on an error by Holy Family to put the fifth run on the board in the inning.

Katelyn Pnacek ended the game early with a two-run home run to left field for the 9-0 result.

Reifschneider led the way offensively with a perfect 1.000 batting average as she went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. She was the only SVSU player with multiple hits. Pnacek and Sabin finished with two RBI.
