VerVaecke, Mundy sweep GLIAC Player of the Week honors

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team swept six games last week as the Cardinals continue to push towards the top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as the regular season approaches its conclusion. 

SVSU had several outstanding individual performances throughout the week and the GLIAC selected two Cardinal seniors for the league's weekly honors. Meagan VerVaecke is the latest GLIAC Player of the Week, while Julia Mundy is the Pitcher of the week. 

Meagan VerVaecke was 9-of-16 (.563) at the plate in six games last week. The senior from Macomb, Mich., drove in 10 runs, finishing with three doubles, one triple, and one home run while adding seven runs scored and four walks. 

On the mound, Julia Mundy pitched three complete games, allowing just three earned runs in 17 innings pitched. The Greencastle, Ind., native struck out 25 batters, walking only two. She complied a 1.24 ERA on the week and is 9-2 overall this season for SVSU.

The Cardinals host Wayne State University in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm Tuesday at the SVSU Softball Complex
