UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team celebrated Senior Day with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at home on Saturday.

The Cardinals rolled to a 10-1 win in the opener, limiting the Rangers to two hits in five innings. SVSU completed the sweep with a 7-0 shutout in the finale. The sweep moves SVSU to 26-12 overall and 12-4 in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals sit in second place in the GLIAC standings, one game back of Grand Valley State University.

Prior to game one, SVSU honored five Cardinals on Senior Day, including Julia Mundy, Blasia Moyler, Julia Salisbury, and Meagan VerVaecke, as well as student manager Raechel Ashmus.

Game One Breakdown:

• After a quick first inning, the Cardinals took a 4-0 lead over the Rangers after a three-run double from Leah Denome.
• The Cardinals pushed the lead to 6-0 after VerVaecke homered to left to score two in the third.
• The Rangers for on the board with a run in the fourth, but the Cardinals closed it out with four in the fourth.
• The fourth started with an RBI single from Jackie Popko and a two-run double from Sara Moos. VerVaecke added an RBI double later in the fourth and the Cardinals closed the game out in the fifth.
• Mundy (9-2) pitched all five innings for the Cardinals, allowing one run on two hits, walking one, and striking out seven.
• Denome and VerVaecke each finished with three hits and three RBIs.

Game Two Breakdown:

• SVSU went in front early with an RBI single from Popko in the first before the Cardinals added four runs in the second.
• Alexis Gills, Maddie Campagna, Sarah Gersch, and Salisbury each recorded an RBI in the second.
• The Cardinals extended their lead to 7-0 with a two-run single in the third.
• Alyssa Muench shut down the Rangers the entire game, pitching all seven innings, allowing eight hits, walking one, and striking out five.
• Salisbury finished with three hits, including a double, while Gersch finished with two hits and three RBIs.
