Southgate's 9th Place Finish Leads Cardinals at GLIAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's cross country team posted an eighth place finish at the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, hosted by Tiffin University at Seneca Hills Golf Course in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Cardinals posted a score of 214, finishing 19 points behind seventh place Ferris State.  Grand Vallely State claimed their 13th straight championship with 33 points.

Junior Joey Southgate recorded his third straight top-10 finish in the 8K event.  Southgate finished in 9th place, crossing the finish line at 24:14.7.  His performance landed him on the 2014 All-GLIAC First Team.

Freshmen Tom Goforth and Clyde Anderson finished in 35th and 60th places with times of 25:26.6 and 26:08.7, respectively.

Rounding out the scoring for SVSU was junior David Jensen (26:13.7) who finished in 65th place and freshman Trevor Thiebaut (26:18.8) taking 67th place.

Saginaw Valley will next compete at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships in Evansville, Indiana.  The race is scheduled to begin at 11:30 am on November 22nd.
