Cardinal Men Finish Third at Michigan Intercollegiate Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's cross country team finished in third place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Calvin College. SVSU finished with a score of 138 which was bested only by Grand Valley State (20) and Calvin College (73).

Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich.) paced the men's team with a 17th place finish as he completed the 8,000 meter run with a time of 25:22.8. Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson HS) was next for the Cardinals as he finished in 31st position crossing the line at 25:41.4, while Drew Meylan (Bay City, Mich. / Western HS) was close behind at 25:47.4 in 34th place.

Sophomore Tony Peel (Swartz Creek, Mich.) took 37th with a mark of 25:51.4 coming in just ahead of senior Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich.) in 39th position with a time of 25:55.8. Chad Scott (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) completed the course in 26:09.4 which was good for 48th place as Jacob Lauka (Oxford, Mich. / Lake Orion HS) came in with a time of 26:15.0 as he took 53rd position.

The Saginaw Valley lineup was rounded out by Gareth Gose (Leslie, Mich.) who ran the 8k race in 26:27.1 in 63rd, while Kyle Henderson (Freeland, Mich.) finished in 26:30.5 in 66th place and Brandon Bishop (Burt, Mich. / Chesaning HS) crossed the finish line in 116th at 27:47.4.

The Cardinal cross country runners will return to the course for the highly anticipated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 20th in Midland, Mich.
