Men's Track Places Fourth at Miami Invitational

MIAMI, Ohio - The SVSU men's track & field team competed at the Miami University (Ohio) Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 4) after the Cardinals' event at Bellarmine University got cancelled due to flooding in the area.  SV put up 91.50 points in the meet, placing fourth.  

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Josh Simmons, Elias Chiatalas, James Walker and Andrew Mudd place first with a time of 3:19.27.

Frank Sanders claimed the top spot in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 2.05 meters.  The mark was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.  

Sanders led a trio of top-five finishers in the triple jump as well, finishing second with a distance of 13.82 meters.  Robert Tarpley finished next in the third spot with a mark of 13.62 meters and Brady Watson finished fifth with a distance of 13.46 meters.

Tarpley added a fifth place finish in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 6.77 meters.

Joey Southgate finished third in the 5,000 meter run, posting a time of 14:49.37.  Teammate Andrew Mudd also had a third place showing, crossing the line with a time of 15.55 in the 110 meter hurdles.

Mudd added a second place finish in the javelin throw, notching a distance of 51.55 meters.  Teammate Ian Rudel was third in the same event, posting a mark of 50.21 meters.

The men are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 11) at the Northwood Invitational.
