SVSU Men Compete in Northwood Open

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University outdoor track & field teams traveled to Northwood University on Saturday (Apr. 12) to compete in the Northwood Open.

The men turned in many top finishes at the meet.

Joey Southgate and Chris Koon placed third and fourth, respectively in the 5,000 meter run with times of 15:20.49 and 15:47.78.

Bryan Brooks was third in the 110 meter hurdles with a mark of 16.35.

Jacob Lauka had a first place mark in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:04.25.

Eric Thornton had a runner-up finish in the high jump, leaping to a height of 6'8.75"  That was good enough for a provisional qualifying mark.  

In the pole vault, Andrew Mudd and Joe Thwing placed first and second with marks of 12'10" and 12'4".  Mudd added a top showing in the javelin throw with a distance of 157'7".

Robert Tarpley and Mudd claimed the top two spots in the long jump, posting distances of 20'11.75"" and 20'7.25", respectively.

In the triple jump, the Cardinals had another two top finishes as Tarpley (43'10") and Brady Watson (41'5") finished in the first place and runner-up positions.

Nick Halabicky had a runner-up placing in the shot put with a distance of 43'0.25".

In the discus throw, Matt Wilkinson finished first with a distance of 152'11".  Jonathan Roosen joined Wilkinson as a first place finisher, posting a mark of 156'2" in the hammer throw.

The men will be back in action at the Mt. Sac Relays in California on April 16th.
