EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2013 Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University. The 18-team field consisted of strong Division II teams, including four NCAA Division I programs.
Men
Freshman sprinter D'Omar Boyden (Portmore, Jamaica) recorded a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles competition with a time of 15.07 seconds.
Senior Gareth Gose (Leslie, Mich.) registered a ninth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase competition with a mark of 9:54.95.
Freshman Darell Myree (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) earned a 10th place finish with a mark of 11.19 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
Junior Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich. / Sterling Heights) also finished in 10th position in the long jump competition with a distance of 20-feet-11 1/4 inches.
Women
Freshman Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich.) earned first place honors in the 800 meter run as she crossed the line in 2:12.14, just three seconds shy of the school record.
Senior Indoor All-American Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich.) posted a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase as she completed the course in 11:06.24. Fellow Indoor All-American Emily Short (Tawas, Mich.) recorded a ninth place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:44.53.
Jessica Reeves (Sanford, Mich. / Meridian) and Stephanie McMall (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) finished in eighth and ninth places, respectively, in the 5000 meter distance race. Reeves clocked in at 18:28.08, while McMall posted a time of 18:37.05.
The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich.), Taylor Stepanski, Ola Hendler (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and Shavonne Roberson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) finished in sixth place as they crossed the line in 4:05.04.
The SVSU track and field student-athletes will be back in action next Saturday (April 13) at Northwood University for the Northwood Open.
