Nine Cardinals Compete on Day One of GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Members of the Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed in Day One of the Grand Valley State University's Big Meet on Friday (Feb. 8) night.

Senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich.) recorded a 12th place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:08.75. Stephanie McMall (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) also finished in 52nd place in the 5k run, while Victoria Peet (Lapeer, Mich. / West HS) and Amanda Paris (Hemlock, Mich.) notched 57th and 68th place finishes, respectively.

Sophomore Makenzie Frodle (Fraser, Mich.) ended the high jump competition in 15th position as she cleared a mark of 1.56 meters.

Junior Frank Sanders (Detroit, Mich. / Sterling Heights HS) led the Cardinal men with a third place finish in the high jump as he cleared 2.03 meters.

David Ray (Lansing, Mich. / Eastern HS) notched a 14th place finish in the highly-competitive 60 meter hurdles race with a provisional qualifying time of 8.30 in the prelims. Deshawn Jones (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake HS) also did not qualify for the finals in the hurdles as he finished 41st.

Senior Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich. / Garber HS) finished the 5,000 meter distance race in 109th position at 15:53.05.

The SVSU men's and women's track teams are not scheduled to compete in Day Two of the GVSU Big Meet.
