Grob Takes First in Heptathalon at Findlay Classic, Fifth Best Provo

FINDLAY, Ohio - Saginaw Valley State University senior men's track and field athlete Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich.) finished first in the heptathalon competition at the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic today (Jan. 26).  

After the first day of competition, Grob placed first overall with a point total of 2,642.  He earned a second place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.36 and a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.02 meters.  Grob would clinch a first place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.96 meters and a fifth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.80 meters.  

Grob started the second day of competition with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles crossing the line at 8.94.  Grob would then place first in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.70 meters, good for 819 points.  He then earned a third place finish in the 1,000-meter run timing in at 2:48.72.  

Grob ended the competition with a first place finish and would earn a NCAA Division II National Provisional Qualifying mark of 4,999 points. His mark is currently the fifth best provisional mark in the country.

The Cardinals will be back in action again Friday (2/1) when they host the GVSU for a dual meet.
