Cardinals Compete in Day One of the 2010-11 NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships

TURLOCK, Calif. - Saginaw Valley State University had two athletes, sophomore Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) and senior Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East HS), compete in day one of the 2010-11 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.

Competing in day one of the decathlon was Grob, who ended the day sixth overall with a point total of 3,410.  Grob earned a second place finish in the shot put portion of the competition with a toss of 12.50meters.  He also had two fourth place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter, crossing the line at 11.16 and 51.31, respectively.  Earning marks of 5.94 meters and 1.79 meters in the long jump and high jump would also add to Grob's point total after the first day.  Stone competed in the prelims for the 1,500-meter run and crossed the line at 4:03.76, but would not qualify for the finals.

The Cardinals will be back in action again tomorrow (5/27) at 10am pacific standard time (1pm e st) as day two of the NCAA DII National Championships resumes.
