ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Saginaw Valley's Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) finished fifth in the heptathlon at the NCAA DII Indoor National Championships to earn All-American honors.
Grob entered day two in 10th place, but personal bests in the 60-hurdles and pole vault helped him move into fifth place at the end of the competition. He would cross the line with a personal best time of 8.74 in the 60-hurdles, before vaulting a personal best 4.60 meters for a second place finish in the event. He finished off day two with a fourth place finish in the 1,000 meter run, crossing the line with a time of 2:46.21.
Grob started the competition off strong on day one with a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash, coming in with a personal best of 7.21. He would then tie his personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.98 meters, placing him 8th overall after two events. Grob threw the shot put a distance of 12.04 meters which was good enough for fourth place. He would end day one tied for 11th place in the high jump with a height of 1.79 meters and placed 10th overall in the heptathlon competition after day one with a total score of 2619.
This concludes the 2010-11 indoor track and field season. The outdoor season will open on April 1, when the Cardinals' travel to the MSU Spartan Invitational.
