Cardinals Compete in the Northwood Open

MIDLAND, Mich. - Today (Apr. 17) the Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Northwood University Open.

On the men's side earning a frist place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was sophomore Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) who clocked in at 9:40.00.  Redshirt freshman Kane Dietzel (Twining, Mich./Whittemore-Prescott HS) also earned a first place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.92meters.  In the pole vault junior Aaron Wilkins (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft HS) placed second with a height of 4.50meters.  Sophomores Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) and Elliott Wilson (Marion, Mich./Marion HS) both earned fourth place finishes, Bott in the discus with a toss of 42.97meters, and Wilson in the javelin with a distance of 43.60meters.  In the 800-meter run freshman Tony Rasch (Perry, Mich./Perry HS) earned a fourth place finish timing in at 1:59.83. 

On the women's side there was a sweep in the 5,000-meter run with sophomore Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) leading the way clocking in at 18:41.81.  Following close behind Pittoors was sophomore Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point HS) and junior Libby Robinson (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley HS) crossing the line at 18:49.69 and 18:50.22, respectively.  Earning a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles and tying for third in the 100-meter hurdles was Samantha Roberts (Bullock Creek, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) timing in at 1:07.13 and 15.49.  Sophomore transfer Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) placed first in the pole vault with a height of 3.60meters, breaking the previous SVSU record.  Finishing second behind Willford was freshman Alyssa Pindar (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) with a vault of 3.30meters.  Placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was senior Amanda Roache (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mt. Morris HS) who timed in at 11:53.67.

The men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action again Saturday (Apr. 22) when they travel to Indiana University-Purdue University Indiana.
