Saginaw Valley Competes in Day One of Indoor GLIAC Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track teams competed in the Indoor Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships today (Feb. 26) which were hosted by Grand Valley.  

Senior Steve Genther (Laingsburg, Mich.) finished second in the 5000-meter with a time of 14:40.06, while sophomore Nick Ekel (Elsie, Mich. / Ovid Elsie HS) finished sixth overall with a time of 14:47.64.  Senior Courtland Seaver (Freeland, Mich.) also competed in the 5000-meter where he finished 11th overall with a time of 15:06.56.  The Cardinals men's distance medley which included: Charlie Richards (Goorich, Mich.), Marion Body (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Tony Filipek (Caro, Mich.), and Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East HS) took first place with a time of 9:55.26.  Sophomore Brian Bott competed in the weight throw where he placed 15th with a distance of 13.94 meters.

Senior Katie Scott (Mitchell, Ont. / Mitchell District HS) finished in ninth place for Saginaw Valley in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:07.47.  For the women's pole vault Stacey Westphal (Corruna, Mich.) finished seventh overall with a height of 3.30 meters, while Elizabeth Wilford (Gladwin, Mich.) finished in eighth overall with a heigh of 3.30 meters.  Sophomore Angie Brooks (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon HS) finished in ninth overall in the long jump with a distance of 4.74 meters. In the women's pentathlon Chelsea Henderson (Ludington, Mich.) finished in tenth overall with a total score of 2785.

The Cardinals will continue to compete in the Indoor GLIAC Championships on Saturday (Feb. 27
